The Pearl gets nod from popular tech site

San Antonio's Pearl Brewery has undergone a transformation and, in the process, won accolades from the website Mashable, which tracks social developments.

The social media and tech website listed the development among ‘6 Architecture Projects That Revolutionize City Life’ this month. It was in good company, with the likes of the East River Blueway Plan in New York also featuring.

The ‘Abandoned Pearl’, as locals call it, was transformed into a venue for popular social events. The building is now home to restaurants that offer everything from seafood to Italian dishes, as well as an amphitheater, retail shops, and the Culinary Institute of America, all in a setting that overlooks the city's famed River Walk.

The Pearl's chief marketing officer, Elizabeth Fauerso, says the idea for the Pearl's renovation is focused on density, since it packs shopping, dining, and living areas in one spot. She says she hopes the Pearl will encourage that kind of destiny throughout the city's Midtown district.

The Pearl Brewing Company, which was the largest in Texas, shut down in 1985. Pabst Brewing took over the effort that same year, but closed in 2001. After that, the area was reinvigorated thanks to a development project on the city's Museum Reach. The Pearl is part of that effort.

The Pearl could work with brochure printers to create mailers for retailers, renters, and those seeking an evening's entertainment, listing the site's amenities and the recent thumbs up from Mashable.
