San Antonio is hosting a local version of a celebration which is tied to an international culture in mid-September.
The local event will include a chariot parade, Bharatanatyam dance routines, Kirtan (music blended with meditation), live art displays, and a menu full of Indian food. The dishes are available for all guests, free of charge.
Bliss House Meditation Center, the organizer of the event, aims to bring a positive and immersive experience through its sixth annual edition.
The Festival of Chariots, also known as Ratha Yatra, is an event which started in Puri, a city located in India. The Hindu people use the celebration to mark the culmination of festivities for both the month of monsoons and the season of summer.
Featured in the event are a trio of chariots. Each is made in tribute to a different Hindu god or goddess, with a unique color scheme, name, and size.
Nandighosha represents Lord Jagannath, with the wood being painted yellow, while gold and red cloths are draped around the structure.
Taladhvaja is Lord Balabhardra’s chariot. There are both red and green cloths adorning the painted blue logs.
Devadalana belongs to Goddess Subhadra. It uses black in both cloth and wood, along with a red-colored cloth.
Attending the San Antonio festival is free, with reservations available through the allevents.in website. The event is open to adults and children alike. The venue will be Woodlawn Lake Park. Flyer printing is a popular event promotion technique for many festivals. The activities will run between 4:00pm and 9:00pm on September 20th.
