Tex-Mex music award event coming to San Antonio

The Texas Talent Musicians Associations will be hosting its 38th annual Tejano Music Awards and Dance this month.

The Tejano Music Awards celebrate the legacy of Tejano music, and will no doubt give off some colorful logo designs. Winners will be chosen by a majority audience vote. There will be performances by the most popular groups, along with a dance.

A popular and time-honor genre, the style known as Tejano music combines influences from the Mexican, European, and U.S. cultures. It began Northern Mexico in the mid-19th Century, then worked its way up to Texas with the introduction of the accordion. It continued to evolve in and out of various Forms from waltzes and polkas, to the replacements with keyboards and synthesizers in the 1960s.

Perhaps the genre’s most famous performer was Selena, who was dubbed as the Queen of Tejano music and specialized in a combination of jazz, German polka, and country. Other well-known Tejano celebrities include Chris Perez, Mazz, and Bobby Pulido.

The event is scheduled to take place at the San Antonio Event Center next Saturday, November 17, starting at 7:00 pm and continuing into the early hours of Sunday morning. Tickets are available through Eventbrite. The general admission is $35 plus a $3.92 fee, while the VIP seating is $100 plus a $7.49 fee.
