San Antonio residents show true colors

Runners in San Antonio took part in a very colorful race on Sunday, June 29, when the Color Me Rad 5K race was held to raise money for Ronald McDonald House.

The 5K participants were regularly covered with colored corn starch by people along the route. The sprays of color give the race its name. Runners are not the only colorful people involved; one man, decked in a pink tank top, cutoff jean shorts, and a fluorescent green cowboy hat, used a leaf blower to blow corn starch at the runners.

There were about 2,500 race participants, all upbeat and energized by organizer Ryan Johnson. Races organized by Color Me Rad are held on behalf of various charities in countries all over the world. Pat Biven, who is executive director of the three Ronald McDonald Houses in San Antonio, expressed gratitude to Ryan and his organization for helping to raise money for them. Biven noted that everyone was having plenty of fun.

Ronald McDonald Houses is close to Johnson’s heart as his nephew was once looked after there ago. He was one of those blasting color onto the runners as they left the starting line; a process that took place at a number of checkpoints throughout the race.

Color Me Rad could work with brochure printers to create a mailer that explains itsfundraising techniques.
