B-Cycle San Antonio is adding to its bike rental program.
San Antonio Bike Share, which oversees the program, plans to add new stations at the DoSeum, San Antonio College, and The Pearl, before the end of the month. The three new stations will raise the total number of such facilities in San Antonio to 58.
San Antonio Bike Share is a non-profit agency that works with San Antonio's Office of Sustainability. B-Cycle was implemented in the city in 2011, and is a bike sharing program by which riders are able to rent bicycles at locations throughout San Antonio, and drop them off at any other station they choose. San Antonio's chief sustainability officer, Doug Melnick, said the new bike stations fill some gaps in the current program, and fit well with the existing stations.
The executive director of the program, J.D. Simpson, said Bike Share plans to add 50 new, sleeker bicycles to the program next month, and hopes to be able to add an additional 100 bicycles by the summer. Simpson says the new bikes have a better design that make them easier to operate.
B-Cycle no doubt wants to make people aware of its program, so it could work with a flyer printing company to create a mailer, perhaps with a coupon, to distribute to potential customers within its service area, describing how the program works and encouraging them to participate.
