San Antonio company goes green

Vision Source, an optometry franchise in San Antonio, has gone green by installing solar panels on the rooftop of its location on Evans Road.

According to an article in the San Antonio Business Journal, Vision Source, San Antonio's biggest network of private optometrists, has put up 120 panels. The installation is almost invisible from the street, but it's expected to generate about 55,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year.

George McLean, who is the company's executive director, said the panels were put in last December in order to bring down the cost of electricity used by the store, which is a busy location. A recent analysis, however, showed even more exceptional savings than might have been expected: the bill for the office's electricity dropped from $1,200 to $200 for the first month the optometrists used solar energy.

Alba Energy installed the solar panels. Alba's CEO, Graeme Walker, said the panels were made in South Korea by LG, while SolarEdge, an Israeli company, supplied four inverters that transform direct current coming from the panels to the alternating power the store needs. The optometric company is able to monitor the panels' savings and production by using custom software.

Vision Source is headquartered in Kingwood, Texas, has 19 locations in San Antonio, and boasts over 4,000 members who are physicians. Companies like this can benefit from working with a brochure printing company to develop materials explaining the advantages of using solar power.
