This year, San Antonio celebrates the return of the monarch butterflies with a two-day festival.
The festival will be educational as well, teaching locals how to attract butterflies to their own gardens and help the monarch specifically.
The City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Zoo have partnered to create this festival, which will be hosted in the zoo. Free seeds will be given away for native milkweed and nectar plants, so that visitors can plant them at home to help the monarch population.
There will be education available to teach visitors what they can do to help end the extinction of the monarch butterfly. The festival will also teach visitors more general information about monarchs, including their migration pattern. Much of the information, especially concerning conservation, comes from the National Wildlife Federation. There will be games and crafts for younger visitors to enjoy.
The Monarch Fest is included with the price of general admission to the zoo. Tickets range from $22 to $27, with membership options also available. Parking is available in various lots around the zoo. Some of the lots are free, while others are paid parking on certain days, especially weekends.
Institutions like this often use banner printing to advertise for upcoming events like this one. The zoo will be open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm both days. The Monarch Fest is currently scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24.
