Oracle plans to open operations in San Antonio

Oracle, the software and hardware developer, is considering opening an operations center in San Antonio, BizJournals.com reported this month.

According to the article, the company wants to add as many as 200 positions to a new San Antonio facility. San Antonio mayor Julián Castro notes that having Oracle bring the jobs to the city will enhance its growing reputation as a welcoming site for IT companies. Nelson Wolff, a judge in Bexar County, says that Oracle's desire to locate in San Antonio is proof that the city has a good economy that can attract international organizations.

Oracle's VP of real estate and facilities, Randy Smith, echoes the comments of the San Antonio officials. He notes that the Alamo City offers a pool of highly talented workers, which makes it perfect for Oracle. He adds that Oracle's presence will serve a “critical financial function” for Oracle's business in Latin America and North America.

Praise of San Antonio as a tech-friendly city also comes from Forbes, which has just ranked it in third place in ‘New Tech Hot Spots’. Steve Waters, who is chairman of the city's Economic Development Foundation, notes that Oracle's decision to locate in San Antonio was the result of a collaborative effort among the company itself, the city, the county, and the Foundation.

Oracle executives will likely need to work with Stationery printers to create a letterhead for the company's new offices.
