New stretch of river now open for paddling

San Antonio residents who want to go rowing on the river now have a new stretch on which to do so.

A new paddling trail running for eight miles has just been completed by the San Antonio River Authority (SARA). The trail stretches along the River Walk, in the Mission Beach section.

The paddling trail starts at Lone Star Boulevard and heads south to Mission Espada. Enthusiasts can expect to spend anywhere from two to five hours riding the river in this segment. The River Authority has also provided new access points in various stretches of the waterway.

The SARA's general manager, Suzanne Scott, says she hopes residents will take advantage of this opportunity to get outside and enjoy the river, either by paddling the whole distance or just a part of it. She notes that the Mission Beach segment is close to the city, making it convenient for water sports enthusiasts to enjoy the experience.

The trail is part of the San Antonio River Improvements Project, which is involved in efforts to improve drainage in the area just south of the San Antonio downtown, as well as enhancing its beauty. Officials have also worked on new hiking and biking trails on the banks of the river.

City officials could work with a flyer printing company to devise maps of the new trail for residents.
