The Delores Fenwick Nature Center in Pearland will host a class in August about vermicomposting.
The Student Vermicomposting Workshop is an informative experience where kids can discover how they can use worms to create compost. The event is organized by Keep Pearland Beautiful and will be led by Ann Hughes, a Brazoria County Master Gardener who has earned achievements like Horticulture Hero of the Month. The Brazoria County Master Gardeners are a group that works with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to provide information to more members of the community.
Keep Pearland Beautiful is an organization that was formed in 1982 as an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. The group was originally known as Clean Pearland. The organization has participated in many programs to help the community, such as starting the Cigarette Litter Awareness Campaign and the Adopt-A-Spot program. The group has won many awards since it was created, including the Affiliate Award from Keep America Beautiful and the Governor’s Community Achievement Award.
The worm composting workshop will be held on Saturday, August 1st from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. The intended audience members for the program are elementary schoolers in the first to fifth grades. Parents are required to stay with their children throughout the workshop. Organizations that hold educational activities like this may work with Print shops to make ads for their programs.
