MHI ribbon cutting ceremony for Pearland Works

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor International (MHI) held an official grand opening on April 25 for its Phase I expansion at its Pearland campus on Kirby Drive.

Prior to the actual ribbon cutting, the Houston-based Japanese drumming ensemble Kaminari Taiko provided entertainment. Following remarks from the presidents of both MHI and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corporation, along with dedications in both Hindi and English, the ribbon was cut and a red carpet tour commenced.

The red carpet ended in a festival and a press conference with Mia Shay from Channel 13 as emcee. During the conference, MHI was given a warm welcome by Pearland Mayor Tom Reid and Clay Pearson, Pearland City Manager.

Pearland Works is MHI’s first manufacturing and service location based in the U.S. The facility puts the finishing touches on machinery and components it receives from the company’s manufacturing plant in Hiroshima, Japan. According to MHI, an additional 100 to 200 jobs are anticipated to be needed for the new compressor component plant.

MHI President, Gampa Bhat, said that Pearland’s proximity to the petrochemical industry made it the “obvious choice” for the company. In preparation for future planned expansions, MHI has invested $26m for a heavy-duty crane and equipment.

As future expansions occur, Stationery printers may be called on to provide custom letterhead and invoices for each part of the operation.
