New archery facility opens in McKinney
A new archery range in McKinney is helping to give enthusiasts a place to go to practice their sport.
The site, located at 1720 West University Avenue, is run by Texas Archery Academy (TAA) and is in close proximity to its major corporate sponsor, Academy Sports Outdoors. It covers an area of 500 square feet and makes archery available to everyone who wants to participate.
This is just one of the TAA’s facilities throughout the state. It hosts classes run by experienced archers, as well as training and target shoots. While it does not sell the equipment directly, it provides both equipment and space for up to 6,000 archers to enjoy the activity.
At least 60,000 people have participated in their programs across Texas, including those who took part in the TAA supported Archery in the Schools Program. One of the things the group does to help encourage the sport is to take over vacant spaces and turn them into archery ranges in which people can enjoy the sport indoors in any weather, as in the case of the facility in McKinney.
In October, the TAA will be hosting its annual ‘Spook Shoot’ fundraiser, where college students and other younger people will dress up as zombies and be shot at by kids using soft form arrows. Brochure printers will be able to create promotional materials to help advertise the events.
