As another spring approaches, green-fingered folks across McKinney, and the rest of central Texas, will be able to fill their gardens with locally grown plants.
For the past 30 years, the Spring Native Plant Sale has helped the public add to collections, and both novice gardeners and seasoned green-thumbs have found it has lots to offer. One of the draws of the activity will be its collection of milkweed species that are native to the state, and those who choose to cultivate them will be able to encourage monarch butterflies to stop in their yard and maybe raise a family.
While the members of the public browse, they will be able to ask the Master Gardeners and volunteers on hand any questions they might have. Rare and hard to find cultivars will be included, and the sales will be tax free. Pollinator-friendly plants will be in the mix, and to help carry their purchases, everyone is welcome to bring a collapsible cart or carrying Boxes.
Pop-up plant sales tend to be especially popular at the start of the growing season. Signage for these activities may be ordered from a banner printing company.
The 33rd annual Spring Native Plant Sale will be welcoming gardeners from across north central Texas from April 29 until May 1 at the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. More details, including information about becoming member, can be found on its website.
