The Heard Museum Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney gives the public a variety of ways to connect with nature, and one of its most popular annual events is now open for registration.
Those who are interested in learning about owls may want to make sure their name is on the list for the Heard’s Owl Prowl Night Hike, which will visit these silent Flyers on their “home turf.” This year, Pudge and Poe, who are the institution's own resident screech owls, will be the guests of honor, and advance registration has been requested.
During the activity, the attendees will get to meet the screech owls face to face, and they will learn about the other species that also call Texas home. The presenter will discuss facts about the birds including details about their acute hearing, sight and other special abilities they use when hunting, and the group will find out how they can fly silently. After the indoor portion of the evening, the registrants will head outdoors to listen for the calls of owls at the sanctuary.
Hands-on activities may help the public to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the wildlife all around them. Informational Booklets for these events may be prepared by area brochure printing companies.
The Heard has made plans to offer this introduction to owls on March 19. It will kick off at 6:30 pm
