For two days only, the Heard Natural Science Museum will be hosting a plant sale, and it will be putting native plants in the spotlight. There will also be other options to choose from, including herbs and cultivars of annuals and perennials that are well adapted to local growing conditions, pests, and climate.
One of the types of plants that the organizers are especially excited about are the native milkweed species included in the sale. These attract and provide food and shelter for the generation of monarch butterflies that call the area home, and by installing one of the hardy and easy to care for plants in their garden, McKinney green thumbs will also be doing a good turn for these amazing insects.
While the pre-sale will be open only to members of Heard Museum, the event proper will be open to everyone.
