Choosing to use native plants instead of introduced hybrids can benefit the environment in a variety of ways, and a McKinney event will make it easier for the public to utilize them in their home landscape.
Those who take advantage of the annual Spring Native Plant Sale Fundraiser at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary will be able to fill their Bags or baskets with native species, and there will be lots to choose from. Collectors, casual gardeners, and newbie green thumbs may all benefit during what will be the sale’s 35th year.
The market will be filled with options for everything from perennials to herbs, trees, shrubs and more. Native milkweeds and other pollinator-friendly plants will be in the mix, and there will be no tax applied to the purchases. Parking on site will be free, and volunteers will be on hand to offer advice and answer questions. The monies raised will be used by the museum and sanctuary to fund its activities.
Many not-for-profit groups engage in fundraising functions. Those that work with Print shops may find that they are able to order the products they need without having to break the bank, which will leave more to go towards the cause.
This chance for locals to add some native plants to their home landscape will be open on April 13 and 14. It is located at 1 Nature Place in McKinney.
