McKinney firefighters step up to help seniors in need

The Collin County Meals on Wheels program supports many seniors and others throughout the local area, and firefighters in McKinney lent their support to it last month.

Members of the Professional Firefighters of McKinney IAFF Local 2661, along with representatives of the Frisco Firefighters Association IAFF local 3732 and their corresponding auxiliaries, joined forces to make the holiday season a little brighter for those seniors who have no family of their own. Together, they purchased and wrapped more than 150 gifts, which were then given to the Meals on Wheels for distribution to those who needed them.

According to a representative for the firefighters, they found the idea of a senior being without any family on Christmas to be distressing, and they were happy to help and felt blessed to be able to make a difference.

The gift drive for older adults is just part of what Meals on Wheels does. Each year, the organization distributes in excess of 220,000 meals to those in the community who need this kind of assistance.

With plenty of people in the area keen to offer their voluntary support to various causes, gift drives like this provide them with a chance to do so. Brochure printers can crate pamphlets explaining what the organization does and how people can help them in their work.
