The city of McKinney recently made an announcement that there is a high chance that a Costco store will be coming to the community.
Officials with the
city gave their approval to an economic development agreement with the well-known wholesale retailer. The plan for the build involves the construction of a 150,000 square foot facility that will serve the retail and wholesale needs of the area. Included in the details are 740 parking spaces and also a fuel station that will be open on a member’s only basis.
According to officials, the company noted both the current and projected growth of McKinney, and felt that it would be a good for its sales model. It expects that, once it is fully operational, the store will provide employment for 150 to 170 people and add $10 million or more to the city’s tax base.
Before construction can begin, Costco will need to have its proposed property rezoned so that it can accommodate the location, and it will also need to obtain the required permits. It plans on being ready for business in two years. A printer will be able to design a variety of Promotional Products to help market a retailer such as this when it sets up shop in a new community.
According to McKinney’s Pro Tem Mayor Travis Ussery the city’s council is excited about the prospect of the retailer opening its doors here.
