Artistic festival coming to McKinney

McKinney will soon play host to a celebration of the arts.

The Poetry Society of Texas’ Mockingbird Chapter will be holding its Rhythms of Pens and Brush event which will showcase music, art and the spoken word.

The featured contributor for the festival will be Richard Blanco, who is a poet of national acclaim. Different activities are scheduled to take place throughout the day, winding up with a reception to be held at 7:30 pm, which will include music by jazz musicians, pieces created by visual artists, and actors.

Along with his public performance, Blanco will be the facilitator for two workshops that will be held during the day. The first of these is free of charge and geared towards high school students with an interest in writing. The second will be for poets and those who are members of the Mockingbird Chapter. A Print company will be able to provide any printed materials, such as handouts, decorations or other items that are needed to help make the event a success.

While ticket sales will help to cover some of the cost for the event, which is set to take place on October 15, the public’s help is being sought to fund the rest. Those who wish to send a tax-deductible donation are invited to contact Dr. Khan’s office at 972-548-9690 or MPAC at 972-547-2650 for more information on how to do so.
