Plus Fest is taking place next month in Houston, with what is the ‘everything + poetry festival’, to give it its full title.
While the main emphasis will be on poetry, there will also be music, visual art, videos showings, and spoken-word performances. The musicians who will be performing include Ruby Francisco and the Andrew Seifert Band. Other performers will include The People’s Cook, DJ Roo, and Houston VIP.
There are set to be folklore film showings, artist showcases and panel discussions, art installations, and photo booths. Several poetry slams and speed writing buskers will be present for those wanting to immerse themselves in literature and performance.
The festival will finish off with an after-party which will begin at 10:30 pm. There will be a cash bar, appetizer, and performances by Soul Control, Ravenessa Feat, Who Said What?, and Nyne the Poet. The host for the evening will be Richelle Gemini.
The aim of the festival is to change the public’s perception of poetry. No doubt the organizers will be working with a Houston Print company to produce advertising materials such as Posters and Flyers to help spread the word.
Plus Fest will be held at Eperson Gallery on May 27 beginning at 3:00 pm. Event passes are $30 each, or $45 if including the after-party, while tickets for the party alone are $20. For the most current information and the full entertainment lineup, visit the official event website.
