Houston workshop introduces birding

Birding is an activity that can be enjoyed by almost any age and level of physical ability, and a Houston venue will be the location for a workshop that offers those new to the hobby a chance to learn from local experts.

Houston Audubon has organized a session of its Birding 101 program at the Alief-David M. Henington Regional Library. It will run for one hour on a Saturday afternoon, and it will be focused on species commonly spotted in the local area.

The facilitator for the session will teach how to use various characteristics to determine what species a bird is, and tips for spotting them will be shared as well. This in-person activity will include time for questions, and the organizers hope that it will encourage everyone who takes part to head outdoors and get started at birding right away.

Observing birds is a hobby that can be both relaxing and rewarding, as it encourages people to become citizen naturalists. Print shops that offer in-house Graphic Design Services can prepare basic field guides and species checklists, as well as bespoke designed certificates to give to anyone who spots a “lifer.”

The introduction to the fun of observing some of Houston's feathered friends will run from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 7. Registration is required and can be arranged on the library’s website.
