January cook-off to help future law students

The 3rd HBAA Chili and Pie Cook-off is taking place next month in Houston. It will be a fundraising event for the Houston Bar Association Auxiliary.

Applications are still being accepted for competitors until January 20. Chili teams, with a maximum of five members, pay $500 (or $100 for each additional person) and each pie entry is $50.

Chili teams are expected to supply three gallons of chili for the public, and can add appetizers to go with it if they wish. The chili will be judged on taste, color, aroma, consistency, and presentation. The winner will receive the Best Chili title. There is also a People’s Choice Award.

Pie competitors must supply two pies, and will be judged on categories such as taste.

There is also a Best Decorated Booth Award that all competitors are eligible for, with musical entertainment and a silent auction complementing the competition.

The Houston Bar Association Auxiliary raises funds for the HBAA Charitable Foundation that provides law students with scholarships.

Participants who wish to decorate their booths may invest in signage or Banners from a Houston Print company to get an edge on their competition.

The HBAA Chili and Pie Cook-Off will be held at the Bayou City Event Center on January 21 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the gate. Visit the HBAA website to learn more.
