The 20th annual Texas Lunar Festival is taking place next month, presented by the City of Houston.
Lunar New Year is based on the Chinese calendar and is celebrated in January or February in several countries around the world, including China, Korea, and Japan. In China, 2016 is the Year of the Monkey.
The Houston event is set to provide a day of entertainment and food. There will be traditional dances from Taiwan, China, India and Brazil, together with folk songs, a fashion show, and acrobats.
In addition, there will be martial arts demonstrations, Korean drums, and appearances by past Miss Chinese New Year Houston winners. A flash mob is also planned for noon. Among the groups performing will be the Houston Red Sunset Dancing Group, the Huaxing Art Troupe, and the J&H Dance School.
Many traditional Asian and Chinese dishes will be available for purchase during the festival. Vendors will be on hand to sell a variety of Asian-inspired products; items will most likely include handmade jewelry, clothing, and decorative accessories.
Houston banner printing firms will likely be providing Banners for the stage.
The Texas Lunar Festival will be held at Houston City Hall on February 13 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Admission is $6 per person. To find out more about this event, contact either Angela Chen at 281-983-8160 or Jennifer Lopez at 281-983-8154.
