Grapevine to host Irish dance competition

The McTeggart Irish Dancers of North Texas has moved its Texas State Championships and Cowtown Feis competition to Grapevine. The three-day event will be coming in early March.

The first day of the event will be the music, vocal and spoken word competition. Musicians will play traditional Celtic folk tunes, vocalists will sing traditional Celtic folk songs, and participants in the spoken word category will have three minutes to recite a passage or poem from Celtic literature.

The Championship trophies will be given in the categories of solo and group dancing, figures, vocals, spoken word and music. Beginner solo dance competitors will be judged in a variety of jigs. Beginner 11, Novice, Prizewinner, and Adult competitors will be dancing those steps and adding the double jig and hornpipe.

In the Cowtown Feis, special trophies will be given in the categories of non-champ reel, non-champ traditional hornpipe, non-championship traditional set, and non-championship double reel. Trophies will also be presented to the winning adult traditional set, the championship double reel, and championship traditional set.

Families of the winners will surely be taking pictures for future poster printing.

The second annual Cowtown Feis and the 23rd Annual Texas State Championships will be at the Grapevine Convention Center, 1209 South Main Street. The Texas State Championships & Fies 2018 begins March 9. On the following day starting at 8:00 am will be the dancing competitions, and Cowtown Feis 2018 will be March 11.
