Georgetown is celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month with events throughout the month of July.
“Build Together, Play Together” is the theme for this year’s Parks and Recreation Month, which has been an American tradition since 1985. At once a community-building enterprise and a way of acknowledging the more than 160,000 parks and rec workers across the country, there are about 10 parks in the Georgetown area hosting featured activities.
A month-long scavenger hunt involves finding clues to locate hidden Boxes containing puzzles at each of the parks. Collect all 10 phrases or numbers by solving all of the puzzles, recording them in the Parks Passport worksheet, available at the Georgetown Recreation Center, and claim a prize when all is said and done.
Weekly events include an Appreciation Day with gifts given to parks and rec members and passholders, held on July 1 at the various facilities; a Roll and Splash Bash on at San Gabriel Park Plaza on July 18; a sunset movie screening of “The Wild Robot” at San Gabriel Park on July 11; and a Dive-in movie event at Williams Drive Pool for Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl on July 25. The movie screenings are each happening at 8 p.m., with doors open at 7:30 p.m., on their respective nights.
Summer festivals like this may choose to use brochure printing to create season schedules, prize lists and movie programs.
