Music festival pays tribute to Romantic composer

The 11th annual Festival of the Art is taking place this May in Georgetown. This year's theme is ‘Romance in Georgetown’ and it is dedicated to the lives and music of Robert and Clara Schumann.

The event will consist of various concerts, recitals, talks, and a fireworks display. Speakers include Susan Vouens, Ellsworth Peterson, and David Ferris.

Topics of discussion will include Robert Schumann's songs in 1840 and 1850, Robert and Clara Schumann in Georgetown, and Clara Schumann's life on film. There is set to be a free showing of the film ‘Song of Love’ at City Lights Theatre, which stars Katharine Hepburn and Paul Henried and is about the Schumann's life together and her life after his death.

The festival consists of both free and paid activities. The talks cost $5 each and concerts are $25. There will be a free concert and fireworks display at San Gabriel Park that will feature Eastview High School music ensembles and the Round Rock Symphony.

The Festival of the Arts will be held at various Georgetown venues from May 28 to 31. The free concert will take place on May 30 at 8:00 pm and the film show is at 2:00 pm on May 29. To find out more about this event, visit the official event website.
