More people are becoming interested in growing their own food at home, and a Georgetown class will introduce them to a variety of ways they can preserve the bounty.
The Training Room at the Williamson County AgriLife building in Georgetown will be the venue for a workshop that will introduce locals to the benefits of home canning. The registration fee is $35.00, and it will be a live in-person event.
The activity will explore how to use a hot water bath to bottle and preserve a variety of vegetables, and the attendees will find out how to prevent botulism and other food-borne illnesses from developing in their jars. Everyone will go home with handouts as well as two canned items they can enjoy themselves or share, and the class will run for three and a half hours.
Many communities offer their residents a schedule of continuing education opportunities. Stationery printers will be able to lend a hand by preparing handouts as well as promotional Pens to give to the attendees. These will make it easier for them to continue learning even after they have left for home.
Williamson County AgriLIfe will be covering home canning with this class on September 30. Everyone who registers is asked to arrive by no later than its scheduled start time of 12:30 pm.
