The Georgetown Police Department and the Georgetown ISD Council of PTA are putting together the Chase the Chief 5K and Fun Run for the community. The event combines education, exercise, and entertainment for a fun family-oriented day.
The course runs along the San Gabriel River and along a park trail. The 5k is meant for serious runners and novices alike, and is expected to offer a low to medium challenge level. The Fun Run will start later in the day. All participants who complete the race will get a keepsake, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
In addition, participants in the races will have the opportunity to ‘chase’ the chief of the police department. Georgetown Police Chief Wayne Nero will run in the 5K, and Assistant Police Chief Cory Tchida will come out for the fun run, adding a little bit of extra fun to the event.
Funding for the race is being used to support physical fitness programs at GISD schools. As such, there will also be a health fair. Brochures and Promotional Products will be available, along with expert advice on how to help children live healthier and more active lifestyles. The fair will also include an obstacle course race and snacks.
The event will take place on April 17 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm at the San Gabriel Park. Registration for the race must be completed in advance and costs $10 for adults and $5 for students. Attendance to the event is free. Anyone interested in more information should visit the website.
