To make an active start to February, residents of Georgetown need look no further than their own downtown.
The 21st Annual Cupid’s Chase 5k Run/Walk and Fun Run is set to provide exercise, entertainment, and a little friendly competition.
The 5K portion of the event is chip timed and will be separated into divisions by age. Prizes will be awarded for the top three in each division, as well as the top male and female competitor overall. The race runs through the center of historic downtown Georgetown, plus many of the city’s parks.
The Fun Run is for children aged eight and under and is made up of a quarter-mile loop around the courthouse. All participants receive a T-shirt, a goody bag, and an award for participation. On top of that, there will also be a costume contest with prizes for the top three cupid-related costumes. All proceeds from the event will go towards the Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department, which uses the funds every year for major park improvements in the city.
The event will be held this Saturday, February 6, at the corner of 7th and Main St. The Fun Run begins at 7:30 am, while the 5K starts at 8:00 am. Registration for the 5K is $16 for seniors and children under 12, and $18 for adults. The Fun Run costs $10 per child.
