The spirit of walking a mile in someone else’s shoes is behind a Georgetown activity that is now off and running.
Dementia Live is on offer at the Georgetown Library, and as space is limited, advance registration is required. The activity is being presented with support from A Gift of Time, and it is intended for those who provide care to those living with dementia, whether they are a professional or family caregiver.
The session sees those who take part learn, through personal experience, what it is like to live with sensory change and cognitive impairment. Specialized gear will be provided, and the setting will be safe for the participants. The goal is for them to become more sensitive to the daily challenge dementia patients face every day, and other information will be provided as well.
Libraries often serve as community hubs, hosting workshops and other learning events. A poster printing company may prove to be a valuable partner, helping to keep the public abreast of the programs and activities it has on offer.
The Dementia Live hands-on learning opportunity started on Tuesday, June 11, and will be open to the public until Thursday, July 11 in Room 206 at the bench located at 402 West 8th Street. Tickets for the experience, which are free, can be reserved through its event listing website.
