Georgetown begins a symphonic holiday

The people of Georgetown took a break from Christmas shopping for the Georgetown Symphony Society’s Annual Holiday Concert. The concert provided a wide range of holiday music for fans of carols both new and old.

The music was performed by the Temple Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Fairlie, an orchestra of nearly 100 people from the Central Texas Area made up mostly of local educators. The concert also featured the vocal stylings of soprano Priscilla Santana and baritone David Small. The program covered music such as Bach’s ‘Sheep May Safely Graze’ and Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’. There was also a singalong to give attendees a chance to join in on the fun.

The Georgetown Symphony Society is a nonprofit group that was founded in 1999, and is currently in its 14th season of performances. Its mission is to contribute to the cultural life of the community with balanced musical programs of a professional caliber designed for people of many different walks of life and interests. They are also dedicated to fostering excellence in musical education, with a number of partnerships with local organizations.

The Annual Holiday Concert took place last Sunday, December 6, at the Georgetown High School. Those interested in future concerts of either the Georgetown Symphony Society or the Temple Symphony Orchestra should visit their websites to check out their Calendars.
