The second annual International Folk-Art Market promises to be the largest of its kind in the world.
A variety of media will be on sale during the event. Guests can browse through tables filled with carvings, baskets, glasswork, and jewelry. Over 40 master folk artists will be on hand exhibiting their work. Visitors from Fort Worth may be tempted to purchase instruments, paintings, and many other types of goods from the estimated $350,000 worth of art on display.
The event brings in artists from countries around the globe including Nigeria, Peru, and Ukraine. The prices of the works sell for as little as $5 up to $5,000. Most of the profits from the sales (75 percent) go directly to the artists. Organizers expect each artist to earn an average of $10,000 during the three-day event, compared to the $3 most make per day in their native countries.
Visitors to the event will find international cuisine, drinks, and live entertainment. There will also be special VIP shopping events and a Children’s passport project.
The event runs from June 14 to 16. The VIP preview party on June 14 from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The ticket price is $150 per person and includes access to the Friday and Saturday Market.
The market is open on Friday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10 each online and $15 at the door. Admission is free on Saturday from moon until 2:00 pm. There is no admission charge for children under 16.
The event takes place at the Green at College Park at the University of Texas Arlington, located at 700 South Center Street.
