Barnes & Noble continues comeback in Fort Worth

The West 7th Street corridor in Fort Worth will be welcoming a new Barnes & Noble bookstore with a predicted opening date being sometime before the holidays.

Information gathered from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation indicates the company will be moving into the big-box space in Montgomery Plaza that was until recently leased to Office Depot. Moreover, the filing indicates the new Barnes & Nobles will be about 20,000 square feet and include a café.

Ideally new retail businesses should turn to a banner printing service well in advance of their grand opening to help build anticipation.

While many have predicted the demise of brick-and-mortar bookstores, their death knell appears to be premature. Barnes & Noble is turning the tide and has plans in 2026 to open 60 new stores. The bookstore chain now has over 700 locations.

A spokesperson for the chain said:

“Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. In 2025, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019.”

Interior construction is expected to begin in July and finish up by late October. The new Barnes & Noble will be sharing the shopping center with PetSmart, HomeGoods and Target.
