Tickets written as scooter scofflaws are held accountable

The honeymoon is over for riders of electric scooters in Dallas; the Police Department began issuing tickets to riders found in breach of the law.

In Dallas, scooters arrived in 2018 and in the downtown area as well as Deep Ellum they have proven to be hazardous. The scooters drivers are required to ride only on the street, traveling on the sidewalks is prohibited; this appears to be the primary complaint. Moreover, scooter operators must adhere to traffic laws, they may not carry passengers and, if under 17, they are required to wear a safety helmet.

Familiarizing the public with traffic laws that are now being applied may necessitate using flyer printing as an affordable way to notify the public.

On July 31, at a press conference, Deputy Thomas Castro explained that the goal was to keep people safe:

"We're not here to try to ruin anybody's evening. We're not here to try to put a financial burden on someone. We're here to keep people safe, and that's our overall goal."

It was reported on CBS 11 that the first ticket issued was in downtown Dallas on July 28 and was for running a red light. In Deep Ellum around a dozen additional tickets were given out for such offenses as traveling the wrong way and ignoring stop Signs.

To remind the public, Signs are being posted in highly populated areas.
