Dallas awarded federal grant money for low-emission buses

An announcement that the Federal Transit Administration has awarded a $7.094 million grant to Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) was recently released.

A total of 165 transit projects across the country, of which DART was one recipient, are sharing in a pool of over $2 billion in federal grants. The money being designated for Dallas will be used to phase out older model vehicles in its fleet in exchange for low-emission new models.

Some customers of Print shops find bus stops an excellent location to distribute pamphlets, and Flyers.

Working toward their goal of modernizing their fleet, over the next decade DART purchased from California-based Gillig 476 Compressed Natural Gas buses. The near-zero emission option characteristic of Compressed Natural Gas buses was a significant factor in DART being awarded the federal grant.

Commenting on the timing of the grant, Nadine Lee, President & CEO of DART said:

“The timing of this grant couldn’t be better as we begin to receive early delivery of new, state-of-the-art vehicles from Gillig and as we move ahead with preparations to provide service to the massive crowds we expect next year with the FIFA World Cup."

Initially the first new buses were to be delivered in Spring 2026, but those have already been delivered and by the end of December they will be carrying DART passengers. The phase-in of all of the new Gillig vehicles is expected to be completed by 2027.
