The online business Construction Coverage has crunched the numbers and concluded that Dallas-Fort Worth was No.1 in new home construction for 2024.
Construction Coverage used data from Zillow and the U.S. Census Bureau to arrive at the number 71,788 new residential units in DFW that were authorized for construction in 2024. The information gleaned put DFW in front for the total number of permits for apartments, condos, and single-family homes among major metro areas.
Realtors turn to printing services for signage as well as the handouts given at open houses.
Second place went to Houston with residential permits approval at 65,747 in 2024 and New York trailing in third place with 57,929. Another Texas metro area, Austin, was ranked at sixth and San Antonio took 20th place.
Looking at the situation from another angle, Construction Coverage also ranked major metro areas by authorized new housing units per 1,000 existing homes for the same year. Considered this way, Raleigh, North Carolina’s 28.8 permits per 1,000 currently existing homes earns it the No. 1 position. Texas cities dominated the top of the list with Austin taking the No.2 slot, DFW in the No.3 spot, with Houston and San Antonio next with 4th and 13th places respectively.
Among states, Texas tops Construction Coverage’s list of states authorizing the most residential units for 2024 as well as ranking No.6 among the most residential building permits per 1,000 current homes.
