Surprising HQ2 decision: New Yorks loss may be Dallas gain

On Valentine’s Day Amazon showed that it did not “heart NYC” when it announced it had decided to not locate its HQ2 in New York City, which may prove to benefit Dallas-Fort Worth or Austin.

Dallas had high hopes of gaining around 50,000 jobs and was one of the 20 finalists in the competition. Amazon however chose to divide HQ2 between New York City and Northern Virginia. Since dropping the New York City site, Seattle-based Amazon said it had no plans to restart the much touted HQ2 search.

That does not mean that print shops in Dallas are not being used in multiple efforts to show off the advantages Dallas offers as well as the pro-business atmosphere of Texas.

Amazon’s decision to not locate the large facility it had planned for NYC came about due to a fierce backlash from community activists as well as local and state politicians' concerns over gentrification and tax incentives. The e-commerce company said that rather than replacing the NYC location, if would concentrate on a satellite headquarters in Virginia where 25,000 jobs will be located and a 5,000-job operation in Nashville.

Additionally, Amazon says it will continue to grow its foot print at 17 existing tech hubs and corporate offices in Canada as well as in the U.S. this would include its already significant presence in the Galleria area of Dallas.
