The financial resource website, SmartAsset, conducted a study to determine the best and worst cities for technology workers. Dallas was ranked the 4th best city for those seeking employment in technology.
The site ranked 200 cities using criteria such as what percentage of the city’s workforce held jobs in the tech industry, their pay rate, and the city’s cost of living.
Dallas’ score was 95, while the top scorer was Omaha, Nebraska with 100. Second and third place was a virtual tie between Huntsville, Alabama and Colorado Springs, Colorado, each of which received a score of 97. Dallas was the only city in Texas to be listed among the top 10, but no Texas city was among the bottom 10.
Dallas’ high ranking was due in part to the presence of AT&T Inc., Texas Instruments, and Exxon Mobil, all of which call Dallas home. Omaha is home to five Fortune 500 companies, four of which by their nature require a lot of tech infrastructure support.
The Dallas technological sector employs about 4% of the city’s workers, a little higher than the #1 city Omaha’s 3.8%. Salaries for tech workers is 73% higher than the city’s average, while in Omaha the workers in that field make 74% more.
Print companies will no doubt be asked to include Dallas’ high ranking in the study on future promotional materials.Get a Free Quote for Print
