Solution being sought for Dallas intersection

A Dallas intersection, which has seen more than its share of traffic accidents, is being considered for an overhaul.

On January 2, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the City of Dallas released their plans to address the safety issues resulting from three main roads coming together near White Rock Lake. Presently, fast-moving traffic must accept vehicles merging Garland Road, Gaston Avenue and Grand Avenue.

Dallas City Council member Philip Kingston says he has been receiving emails from his constituents in District 14, questioning the wisdom of designing the intersection as it is now and wondering who was responsible. According to Kingston, the intersection’s problems trace back to the rapid upswing in retail and residential growth in the area.

One design being considered by TxDOT and the City of Dallas promises a more organized, well thought out merging arrangement. Local businesses welcome any solution to the current traffic woes; however, those enterprises presently enjoying easy access are hoping to maintain that advantage.

Businesses in the area may find it beneficial to increase their advertisement and perhaps work with their printing company to include a map on their Flyers or other marketing materials.

Funding changes to the intersection will primarily fall on TxDOT’s shoulder but with approval from Dallas City Council, the rest of the money would be supplied by a bond. A decision could come some time in February.
