Plans revealed for 500-foot wheel in new Dallas development

An observation wheel named Texas Odyssey is to be the focal point of a new development in Dallas Cedar West neighborhood, pending city approval.

The proposed wheel will be over 500 feet tall, twice as high as the Fair Park’s Texas Star Ferris wheel, and almost as high as the reunion tower. A complete trip from bottom around to the top and back down will take an estimated 38 minutes.

The new development, which will be located along the Trinity River, will consist of a STEAM education center, an outdoor venue and plenty of retail and dining options. The plans also call for a 1,000 space parking garage and landscaping that will provide increased access to the Trinity River for the public.

The Cedars Neighborhood Association’s Michael Przedwas admitted to being skeptical at first but had a change of heart after talking with developers. He described his feelings about the proposed Texas Odyssey to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth News:

"In conjunction with the development they want to put around it...it would actually be a draw to the area."

Months prior to the developments’ opening, Cedar merchants will likely be contacting printing services to discuss adjustments to their marketing strategies.

The anticipated timeline is to obtain city approval this year and then, after a developmental stage, a ground breaking in August 2019. Hopefully the opening celebration will be New Year’s Eve 2022.
