Dallas City Council, after approving the project in March, has now unveiled plans for a new city park to be built in the city’s northeast sector.
It is anticipated that the new park, by providing nearby residents with additional green space for socializing and enjoying the outdoors, will revitalize the area and encourage new businesses. As per a news release, monies for the project will come from a 2017 bond program, the City of Dallas and funds from the Tax Increment Financing District of the Skillman Corridor.
The new park will utilize one acre of a shopping center owned by the city and located at the corner of Forest Lane and Audelia Road, taking up the southern end of the property facing Forest Lane. In addition to its green space, which will contain pavilions, multi-use sports courts and a playground, the park will also include a multipurpose center.

Anticipated to be done by the end of 2024, phase one will include the construction of the parks outdoor area and a 10,000 square foot renovation of the shopping center’s interior.
When completed the multipurpose center it will house a lobby, exercise rooms, children’s area, and classrooms. Space will be allocated to four city departments: the Dallas Police Department, Offices of Arts and Culture, Dallas Public Library, and Dallas Park and Recreation.
Park construction is expected to cost $1.9m, with another $5.6m needed for the renovations.
