New Dallas development to feature lagoon

It has recently been announced that mixed-used development east of downtown Dallas at Lake Ray Hubbard will be the first Texas community to have a ‘crystal lagoon’.

Kent Donahue, a developer from the state, is moving forward with a Cabo-inspired blue lagoon to anchor his mixed-use, resort-anchored development of Bayside. Donahue is Bayside Land’s development partner, and this is the company overseeing the development in Rowlett, about 15 miles from downtown Dallas.

According to Donahue, the lagoon will serve as a major attraction for Rowlett, and by extension Dallas and the rest of North Texas. Moreover, in addition to being the state’s first such lagoon, its drawing power will be increased further by unique elements that are being planned around and in the lagoon.

The CEO of Miami-based Crystal Lagoons, Uri Man, says the Dallas area lagoon will be the company’s 12th, with 42 more lagoons being under negotiation throughout the U.S. More than 300 such manmade lagoons are in existence around the world. Man says similar projects are being considered in Austin, Houston, and Galveston.

Among the information that brochure printers will likely include to promote the development is that the lagoon will cover eight acres and have a water cleaning filtration system. Surrounding the lagoon will be a marina and resort, luxury apartments, and two condo towers, as well as a single-family home community and retail, entertainment, and restaurant space.

Construction is set to begin on April 26.
