A Kansas City-based dessert chain, Smallcakes, is taking a second go at Dallas by opening a shop in the Medallion Center, located immediately east of US-75.
In 2013, Smallcakes made its first foray into the Dallas market with a shop at Mockingbird Station. That one closed when the owner left the state. The dessert chain presently has 11 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Smallcakes shops bakes its cupcakes fresh every day and uses real buttercream and cream cheese icing. Cupcakes are not all the shops will sell; there will be ice cream made in-shop along with brownies, cookies, ice cream sandwiches, and malts.
Cupcakes are available in a dozen flavors each day with the majority being a variation of chocolate, such as chocoholic, or caramel crunch. Additionally, over 100 flavors are in a rotation, among which are sweet potato, maple bacon, and caramel apple pie.
New businesses of all kind, and in particular those with a perishable product, often find flyer printing to be the most affordable marketing option to rapidly build their business.
The owners of the new establishment are John and Michelle Tatum, a married couple. According to Michelle, one of the factors that tilted them in favor of Smallcakes was the chance to personalize their store. Each franchised store serves the same product, but each has its own look.
The Tatums are finishing construction of their Medallion Center location and anticipate opening in February.
