The Dallas-based Jupiter MLP LLC, a logistics business, has recently announced that it obtained permission to develop a Port of Brownsville crude export dock to house Suezmax-size ships.
A ban on U.S. crude exports was lifted in 2015 and U.S exports have climbed since. Last week, they reached a per day record of 2.6 million barrels, which explains Jupiter’s interest in dock expansion at Brownsville’s port. Jupiter, like many U.S. companies, is eager for its Logo Design to be represented among those of other companies that are part of the boom in overseas oil shipments.
Louisiana Offshore Oil Port and Enterprise Products Partners LP during the last two months have been testing crude supertanker capabilities. In 2017, a supertanker was test-loaded in Corpus Christi at the Ingleside terminal of Occidental Petroleum.
The biggest U.S. oilfield, the Permian, has been the premier driver of U.S. shale output, and the Port of Brownsville’s proximity to Texas’ Permian Basis has provided it access to the Mexican fuel market. Last year, over a million barrels-per-day of diesel, gasoline, and other petroleum products were shipped to Mexico – up from 880,000 barrels-per-day in 2016.
The company has also initiated the permitting process to construct a loading facility for offshore supertankers six miles off the Texas coast. The planned for structure will be attached to the expanded dock and served by the Permian Basin pipeline.
