One of the largest residential developers in North Texas is in discussions that may lead to its purchase of the Golf Club of Dallas, which has a storied past.
The Oak Cliff Country Club, as it was originally called, was built in the 1950s. The golf course was designed by Perry Maxwell, who is well-known in golfing circles. The course opened in 1953 and for 10 years served as home to the PGA Tour’s yearly stop in Dallas – the Dallas Open.
The community has a history of building large-scale apartment complexes and major subdivisions of homes, and has several large projects currently underway. Located in southern Dallas, the over 150-acre Golf Club of Dallas is being considered for home development.
In commenting on the possible deal, Ted Wilson, a Dallas housing analyst with Residential Strategies, described it as “a beautiful piece of property”, noting that Mayor [Mike] Rawlings is among those looking to this particular area for growth.
Should Huffines Communities reach an agreement to buy the golf course, hundreds of single-family homes will eventually be on the market, with Brochures touting the features of the models available. It would be the first major development in this part of the city for the company, and the largest such development in the area in many years.
