Due to the efforts of State Senator Tan Parker, funds to create new parks will be included as a ballot measure this November.
Texas State Parks receive around 10 million visitors per year, and the growing population of the Lone Star state means more parks will soon be needed to ensure there is outdoor space for everyone to enjoy. Dallas voters, as well as those throughout the state, will get the chance to vote up or down on the creation of a Centennial Parks Conservation Fund that could be used by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to buy land from private landowners for future state parks. Proposition 14, which would create the Fund, is for an initial outlay of $1bn.
Prior to an election, brochure printing services are often utilized by political parties and other groups to explain ballot measures to voters.
State Representative Armando Walle, the bill’s sponsor in the Texas House, described the bill as “transformational” and a “Teddy Roosevelt kind of initiative.” The proposition has enjoyed bipartisan Texas Legislative support. Moreover, almost 80 statewide organizations have thrown their support behind the measure.
In a release, Senator Parker said:
"The Centennial Parks Conservation Fund would provide dependable, long-term funding for new park acquisition that will protect the unique natural and cultural treasures of Texas, creating the opportunity to ensure our state parks thrive for generations to come."
Prop 14 will be on the November 7 ballot.
