First month of 2017 sees continued job growth for Dallas

A report confirmed that the recent employment trend for small businesses in Dallas has continued into the New Year.

January makes the fourth month in a row that small businesses here have experienced job growth. As a result, Dallas is in third place among the 20 biggest U.S. metropolitan markets on the Paychex | IHS Small Business Jobs index; only Atlanta and Seattle ranked higher.

Dallas is not alone in riding a wave of small business success, with at least one other Texas city experiencing an increasing need for business card printing. In December and January, Houston showed gains as well, and nationally the New Year began well for small enterprises, which maintained their 2016 monthly employment average for January 2017.

For November 2016, Comerica Bank reported positive indicators such unemployment insurance claims, payrolls, housing starts, home prices, hotel occupancy and rig counts. This means that Comerica’s economic index was up for the third month in a row.

According to a statement released by Robert Dye, the chief economist for Comerica, the Lone Star State’s economy, as a whole has struggled following an abrupt drop in oil production that started near the end of 2014. On behalf of the bank, Dyer expressed confidence that statewide Texas would follow Dallas’ lead and experience increased job creation in 2017.
