Dallas suburbs cited among most affordable for families

Those considering relocation to the Dallas area will be heartened to know that within commuting distance of the city are four suburbs on the list of most affordable U.S. cities for raising a family.

The data management firm Harmony Healthcare IT put together lists of the most and least expensive U.S. cities for raising a family, and the communities of Plano, Irving, Garland, and Fort Worth all made it into the most economical cities top 10 - respectively coming in at No. 3, 4, 6, and 10.

The top Texas city on the list, and the third best in the nation, Plano was commented for its diverse population, outstanding academic environment, exceptional city amenities, and excellent residential neighborhoods. The Plano Independent School District boasts one of the nation’s highest college entrance exam performances.

Chambers of commerce seize every opportunity to include any studies favorable to their cities in the promotional materials they send to Print shops.

Those four DFW cities were the only cities in the Lone Star State to make either list. Gilbert, Arizona grabbed the least expensive city for raising a family while San Diego, California garnered the dubious distinction of being named the most expensive.

To create its lists, Harmony Healthcare IT looked at the 100 most populous U.S. cities and compared them on a variety of factors, such as education, cost of living, childcare, housing, crime, and healthcare.
