What's Happening in Dallas, TX…

Dallas ranked high on list of pet-friendly places to rent

Zillow report entitled “Saying Yes to Pets Helps Landlords find a Tenant Faster” has listed the Dallas rental market as the country’s second most pet-friendly in 2024.

Over 11 million rental ads were analyzed by Zillow which revealed that pet-friendly rentals are leasing more quickly than non-pet-friendly units. In addition to the number of pet-friendly listing, the Zillow report also revealed the median number of days pet-friendly units were vacant compared to those that didn’t permit pets.

In comparing states, Texas was at the front of the pack when it came to Zillow pet-friendly rental listings. First place among U.S. cities was Austin with 80 percent of all its citywide listings being pet-friendly, followed closely by Dallas with 79 percent and San Antonio on it heels with 78 percent. For whatever reason the city of Houston falls well below the national average of 57 percent for rental listing allowing pets, with only 38 percent.

The report stated:

"Renters have more leverage than in quite some time after last year's multifamily construction boom, and the data show allowing pets can make a difference in leasing out a unit quickly."

Additionally, the report showed that Dallas pet-friendly rentals took three days less to lease than those not permitting pets and in a separate survey, Zillow found that among “typical American renters” over half declined leasing a property that wouldn’t allow pets.
