Dallas College tackles Texas teacher shortage

The Center for Reigniting the Educator Workforce (CREW), launched by Dallas College, is designed to alleviate the serious shortage of certified educators throughout Texas.

CREW will serve as a statewide center to expand teacher apprenticeships throughout the Lone Star State. As the Dallas College Workforce Education provost and Vice Chancellor Shawnda Floyd said in a statement:

“Earning quality in-classroom experience prior to graduation will open up substantial opportunities for future teachers across Texas. Dallas College is proud to play a pivotal role in supporting local education agencies, institutions of higher education, and local workforce boards in developing robust pathways into the teaching profession.”

CREW will support high-quality teacher apprenticeships building upon the state’s pipeline programs such as Texas Strategic Staffing and Grow Your Own, each of which is created to strengthen the teacher talent conduit. With respect to designing apprenticeship pathways, Dallas College will supply the necessary training, tools and technical assistance.

Educators at every level utilize printing services with local print shops being preferred for their convenience.

Areas with high certification needs that face significant educator workforce challenges are the main targets of CREW’s efforts including rural communities, providing coaching, access to high quality preparation and invaluable classroom experience via groundbreaking apprenticeship partnerships.

A number of collaborative work groups will be launched by CREW this summer among which will be workforce boards, education service centers, school systems, institutions of higher learning and nonprofits.
